Hipps is lead pastor of Trinity Mennonite Church, Glendale, Ariz., a missional, urban, Anabaptist congregation. He was also a keynote speaker at the biannual Mennonite Church USA Assembly in San Jose this summer. Hipps speaks nationally on the topics of faith, media, culture, post-modernity and the church.

Before earning a master of divinity degree from Fuller Theological Seminary, Hipps was a strategic planner in advertising where he worked on a variety of national brands. The majority of his time was spent developing and implementing the multi-million dollar communications strategy for Porsche Cars North America.

In his book, “The Hidden Power of Electronic Culture: How Media Shapes Faith, The Gospel and Church.” Hipps writes, “There is great promise as well as peril in our technological society. But we will never make our way through the maelstrom of our media if we don’t stop and ask the right questions before moving forward.”

Brian McLaren, author of “A Generous Orthodoxy,” wrote in the forward to the book, “Shane excavates beneath the surface layers to some deep insights that I’ll bet you’ve never considered before. I know he has helped me see new dimensions to the dangers and opportunities hidden both in the status quo and in the new emerging realities of the church.”
