2-4 p.m., Art exhibit reception:Jaye Bumbaugh, sculpture,
drawing and painting, Hershberger Art Gallery
Recently retired Bluffton University art
professor Jaye Bumbaugh’s work has been on display since May
28, 2006. This is the final day of the exhibit.
2-4 p.m., Exhibit reception – “Christ-Kin: The
Human Side of the Bible,” Library Gallery
Wisconsin artist Dierdre Luzwick contemporizes the life of
Christ in charcoal drawings originally sponsored by the Wisconsin
Arts Board. Annotated with passages from the Gospels, these images
form a social commentary that is both grim and hopeful. This
exhibit will run through Oct. 13.

50th Anniversary Art Faculty Exhibit, Hershberger Art
Gallery
This exhibit will feature pieces by current and former Goshen
College Art faculty, spanning time from the years prior to 1955
when adjunct art faculty taught occasional art courses to the
present full blown art program. Reception: Friday, Oct. 6, 6-8
p.m., Hershberger Art Gallery. The exhibit will be on display
through Oct. 22.

Presidential Inauguration Weekend of Dr. James E.
Brenneman
Friday – 10 a.m., Chapel: “Wondering
Allowed” with President Jim Brenneman & others,
Church-Chapel
President Jim Brenneman and others ask questions and wonder.
This chapel service begins the public presidential inauguration
festivities and ends in Schrock Plaza.
Sunday – 2 p.m., Inauguration Ceremony of James
E. Brenneman, Sauder Concert Hall
Open to the public. Ceremony is open seating. Doors to Sauder
Concert Hall open at 1:15 p.m.; pre-service music begins at 1:30
p.m. Overflow seating, with televised viewing of the ceremony will
be available in room 153 of the Music Center. A public reception in
the Music Center courtyard will follow the service.

1 p.m.,Afternoon Sabbatical: Gordon Yoder,
“Can Life Be More Interesting?” Sauder Concert
Hall
Gordon Yoder, associate director emeritus of college relations,
will share his story from small town lad to traveling across the
United States to meet donors. Gordon has lived life with a sense of
humor. Through tragedy and triumph, he has made life an adventure.
Gordon won the hearts of co-workers, donors and fellow travelers
with his positive attitude and ready story. Gordon will share
interesting (and of course humorous) stories from his
life.
Shaw Festival Bus Trip
The Shaw Festival at Niagara-on-the-Lake offers wonderful
theater in “the prettiest town in Canada.” The trip
includes bus travel, two nights lodging in the beautiful Prince of
Wales Hotel, Friday dinner at the Pillar and Post, two theater
tickets with an optional third play, Sunday brunch and a stop at
Niagara Falls.
Cost: $565.

Celebrate Service Day
The entire campus community is encouraged to fan out into the
Goshen area to serve our neighbors on this day. Colloquium classes,
residence hall floors and other housing units and groups spend the
day as servant leaders.” All classes are
suspended.

7:30 p.m., Faculty Showcase Recital:Matthew Hill,
piano, Rieth Recital Hall
Associate Professor of Music Matthew Hill will present a recital
of solo piano music in Rieth Recital Hall. The program will include
works by Mozart, Liszt, Michael Tippitt and George Gershwin/Earl
Wild.
Tickets are $6 adults, $4 seniors/students, available at the
door. GC students free with valid ID.

7:30 p.m., Performing Arts Series: Nickel
Creek, Sauder Concert Hall
The Grammy Award-winning band, Nickel Creek, features guitarist
Sean Watkins, his violinist sister Sara and mandolinist Chris
Thile, who play and sing acoustic music, mixing influences from
various genres including classical, jazz and rock. Named one of
five Music Innovators for the Millennium by Time Magazine, the
article notes, “The trio is making down-home music relevant
for a new generation.”

Autumn Hope Conference: Renewing Waters, Merry Lea
Environmental Center Farmstead Barn
Many of us are aware of the environmental devastation humans
cause, but few of us take time to experience the lessons of hope
and revitalization that the earth offers. The Autumn Hope
Conference is a unique and hopeful blend of fieldwork led by
environmental professionals, reflection, discussion and worship.
This year’s theme, Renewing Waters, will focus on watersheds.
Participants will follow the path water takes on Merry Lea’s
property and witness natural water purification. Guest speakers
include Doug Kaufman, pastor of Benton Mennonite Church, and Eric
Kurtz, an engineering consultant who works in the area of master
planning and hydraulic analysis of municipal drinking water
systems.
Cost: $60. Lodging available at Rieth Village for $15/night.
