Goshen College business students honored for their outstanding achievements

GOSHEN, Ind. – The Goshen College Business Department recently recognized six graduating seniors for their academic achievements and honorable work in the field.

Kate Derstine, a business major from Blooming Glen, Pa., received the Wall Street Journal Award that is given to the college's top business student. The award is based on overall performance, involvement in extracurricular activities on campus and character. Derstine, the daughter of John and Sheryl Derstine, graduated in 2005 from Christopher Dock Mennonite High School and attends Blooming Glen Mennonite Church.

Sheena Whetstone, an accounting major from Atwood, Ind., was given the Indiana Certified Public Accountants Society Award. This award is given annually to the top senior accounting major. Whetstone, the daughter of Jesse and Kathy Allen, graduated in 2005 from Fairfield Junior-Senior High School and attends Wawasee Community Bible Church.

Brian Wyse, an accounting major from Kirkland, Wash., received the Academic Award for his outstanding performance in accounting. Wyse, the son of Stan Wyse and Donna Unruh, graduated in 2005 from Lake Washington High School and attends Evergreen Mennonite Church.

Sheldon Good, a business and communication double major from Telford, Pa., received the Academic Award for his outstanding performance in business. Good, the son of Don and Diane Good, graduated in 2005 from Christopher Dock Mennonite High School and attends Salford Mennonite Church.

Abri Houser, a public relations major and business minor from Newton, Kan., received the Academic Award for her outstanding performance in business. Houser, the daughter of Gordon and Jeanne Houser, graduated in 2005 from Newton High School and attends New Creation Fellowship Church.

Isaac Smith, a global economics minor and history major from Iowa City, Iowa, received the Global Economics Award. Smith, the son of Robert and Margaret Richer Smith, graduated in 2005 from Iowa Mennonite School and attends First Mennonite Church of Iowa City.
