Summer music opportunities for all ages at the Goshen College Music Center
GOSHEN, Ind. – The Goshen College Community School of the Arts (CSA) is currently accepting registrations for summer Music Together® music and movement classes in Elkhart and Goshen for young children, as well as private music instruction on several instruments for school-aged children and adults.
Music Togethe®¨ classes for children birth through age 5 and their families will be held starting June 20 at Prairie Street Mennonite Church in Elkhart, and in July at the Goshen College Music Center. Music Together® is a research-based method for developing basic music competence in children. It accomplishes this through singing and movement to songs and chants, drawing on a wide variety of cultures and styles. Classes are attended by a parent or caregiver, and older siblings are welcome to attend. Classes are taught by a trained professional and participants receive a songbook and professional CD for home listening.
Summer private instrumental lessons at the Music Center are offered on piano, violin, viola, cello, flute and guitar. In some cases, an interview with the instructor is required for new students before registration is confirmed, and a family registration fee may also apply. Students may sign up for blocks of four, six or eight lessons.
Goshen College has a long tradition of preparatory programs in piano and violin for pre-college community youth. Soon after the completion of the Goshen College Music Center, these programs and other initiatives were combined to establish the Community School of the Arts in the fall of 2003. The CSA provides quality arts education and performance experiences for people of all ages, abilities and economic circumstances. The CSA is committed to finding ways for deserving students to study music, offering need-based scholarships awarded on a sliding scale through its scholarship programs.
