Summer 2010 events at Goshen College
All events are open to the public and are free unless otherwise noted.

Art exhibit: "
Grandmother's Flower Garden – Floral Design
in Mennonite and Amish Quilts,"Good Library Gallery
Antique and contemporary quilts by Mennonite and Amish makers,
using both geometric and naturalistic flower motifs. The exhibit is
a tribute to the traditional design known as "Grandmother's
Flower Garden" that has become one of the most popular
patterns in the history of American quilt-making. Quilts are on
loan from various quilters and owners, including the Mennonite
Historical Library. The exhibit supports the summer Quilt Gardens
tour sponsored by the Elkhart County Convention and Visitors
Bureau. After Memorial Day, the 1903 crazy patch friendship quilt
represented by the Goshen College Quilt mural on Newcomer Center
will also be on display. Rebecca Haarer, curator. Mennonite-Amish
Museum Committee, sponsor.

New students enrolling for the first time at
Goshen College are invited to register for classes with an adviser

Piano Workshop and Academy for Teachers and Students, Music
Center
The Piano Workshop and Academy is designed to serve the
professional needs of piano teachers working at all levels and in a
variety of settings. A concurrent academy for piano students ages
13-18 creates a dynamic atmosphere in which teachers and students
learn together and from each other.
Guest clinicians include Robert Weirich from the Kansas City
Conservatory; Karin Redekopp and Mark Edwards (a duo piano team);
Lisa Weinheimer Roebuck; Kevin Olson (composer of the year), as
well as Goshen College professors Matthew Hill and Beverly
Lapp.

Goshen College Soccer Camp, Goshen College Soccer
Fields
This fun-filled soccer experience will give
players all the tools they need to become better as they are
trained in proper soccer technique. Kindergarten Kickers, ages 5-6
years old (cost $80), will meet 10-11:15 a.m. Students in grades
1-8 (cost $190) will meet from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The camps
will be directed by Thavisak (Tavi) Mounsithiraj, head coach of the
Goshen College men's soccer team, 2005 MCC Coach of the Year
and 2006 NAIA Regional Coach of the Year.

New Student Days
New Goshen College students will move in to their residence hall
rooms and take part in several days of orientation before fall
semester classes begin on Aug. 30, with the Monday evening
classes.

10 a.m., Opening Convocation: President Dr. James E.
Brenneman, Church-Chapel
Goshen College President Dr. James E. Brenneman will launch the
2010-2011 school year in this opening convocation.
Goshen College's Administration Building, Church-Chapel, Good Library, Music Center, Newcomer Center, Union Gymnasium and Umble Center are accessible to people using wheelchairs and others with physical limitations.
