GOSHEN, Ind. – Goshen College Community School of the Arts (CSA) music ensembles will perform their annual Spring Showcase Concert on the Northridge High School auditorium stage on Sunday, May 8 at 4 p.m.

The concert will feature performances by the Rejoice Children's Choir (grades 3-5), directed by Rosemary Rupp, Shout for Joy Children's Choir (grades 6-8), directed by Sandy Hill, and the Allegro and Vivace Strings ensembles, directed by Rosalyn Troiano.

The Allegro Beginning String Ensemble and Vivace Strings will be combining their talent and enthusiasm to present the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791). The students will perform arrangements of two arias for Papageno, the Bird-Catcher, from Mozart's opera, The Magic Flute. Traditionally, the character Papageno plays his famous melody on the pan pipes. However, this performance will feature Goshen Community Schools music teacher Kent Dutchersmith as nose flute soloist. Fourteen-year-old CSA violin student, Monica Wheeler, will perform the first movement of Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 5 with the string ensemble. Written in 1775, Mozart was just 19 years old when he composed this concerto.

The CSA Choirs will perform songs for treble chorus, including spirituals, folk songs and classics old and new, and will combine to sing "Sanctus" by Jill Gallina. Among the program highlights are Mozart's "Alleluia Canon," Rosinni's "La Danza" with four-hand piano accompaniment, Beatles tunes with guitarist Rafael Chavez, "Esta Es el Tiempo" by Jay Althouse, and a stirring arrangement of the spiritual, "Until I Found the Lord."

Tickets are available at the door one hour before the concert. Tickets are $7 adults, $5 seniors and students. General admission seating.
