8 a.m., Midwest Birding Expedition with
Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center
This year's annual expedition will head for birding hotspots
along the Indiana Dunes. Guided by Merry Lea's Lisa Zinn and
Friend of Merry Lea Paul McAfee, the group will visit Indiana Dunes
National Lakeshore, Indiana Dunes State Park, Michigan City Harbor,
Beverly Shores, Pinhook Bog and more. Cost: $475 covers
transportation, lodging, guides. Meals not included. Meet at the
Sauder Concert Hall parking lot. Registration deadline: April 29.

2-4 p.m., Reception for Juried Student Art Exhibit,
Hershberger Art Gallery
Enjoy a wide spectrum of art in the annual juried student exhibit,
which features the work of current art students. The reception will
include award announcements and presentations. This exhibit is up
until May 20.

4 p.m., Community School of the Arts Showcase Concert,
Sauder Concert Hall
Two Community School of the Arts children's choirs as well as
other CSA students will perform. Rejoice (grades 3-5) is directed
by Rosemary Rupp, and Shout for Joy! (grades 6-8) is directed by
Sandra Hill.
Tickets are $7 adults, $5 seniors/students, available at the door only. GC students are admitted free with valid ID.

7 p.m., Kathy Kelly: Practicing Nonviolence – From
Iraq to Gaza to USA, Administration Building Room 28
Peace activist and author, Nobel Peace Prize nominee and
coordinator of Voices for Creative Nonviolence, Kelly will tell
stories from her recent trip to Gaza. She will also describe her
experiences in nonviolent direct action at Creech Air Force Base,
the headquarters for the Unmanned Aerial Systems used for drone
attacks against Afghanistan and Pakistan. Sponsored by Voices for
Creative Nonviolence, Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary and
Goshen College.

Lecture/Recital: LaRita Craft, piano and Doug Reneau, trumpet,
Rieth Recital Hall
An evening of music by Ravel, Chopin, Gershwin, Bernstein and more.
Brief lecture by performers and a short reception to follow. Free
and open to the public.

7 a.m., NatureFest, Merry Lea
Environmental Learning Center of Goshen College, Farmstead Site
There will be hikes and seminars for people of all ages. Hunt for
birds and bugs, take your family on a wetland investigation, learn
more about the environmental health of the region, canoe on High
Lake, enjoy homemade ice cream and more. Overnight camping
available. Events meet at the Farmstead. Cost: $5 per meal or
event; $15 covers all day Saturday; $20 covers the weekend
including camping. Family and group rates also available.

8:30 a.m., Natural History of Wetlands, Merry Lea
Environmental Learning Center of Goshen College, Farmstead Site
In this in-depth workshop, we will explore the geology and biology
of wetlands as they exist in Merry Lea's landscapes,
especially Merry Lea's fine wooded wetlands. The skills and
knowledge you will acquire will help you examine other wetlands
that might be under your care and protection. Led by Mary Linton,
Merry Lea's Lindsey Fellow from 1989 to 2002, and Alice
Thompson of Thompson and Associates, a wetland consulting firm in
Wisconsin. Cost: $175 includes meals, two nights lodging,
instruction and supplies. Only a few spots left. For information or
