Gingerich Recreation-Fitness Center
Marjory Byler, 1969 GC graduate and human rights activist and
organizational consultant, will present the commencement address,
titled "There is a crack in everything."

9-11 a.m., Merry Lea Spring Birding Hike
Meet at Rieth
Village. Longtime volunteer Neil Case will lead this hike in search
of spring migrants and other birds newly home to breed and nest. $5
per adult, $2 children.

2-4 p.m., Reception for Juried Student Art Exhibit,
Hershberger Art Gallery
Enjoy a wide spectrum of art in the annual juried student exhibit,
which features the work of current art students. The reception will
include award announcements and presentations. This exhibit is up
until May 24.

6-8 p.m., Opening reception for "Senegal Fabrics in Indiana
Patchwork: The Quilts of Irene Bornman," Good Library
Gallery
Using fabrics she bought in markets when she worked in Senegal from
1999 to 2008 for Friends of the Wolof and Mennonite Mission
Network, Irene Bornman of Goshen made quilts for her grandchildren.
The quilts reflect her motto: "Work with what you
have."
Curated by Rebecca Haarer, this exhibit is open May 8 to July 15
and Aug. 15 to Sept. 5. For gallery hours, call (574)

College, supporting the Quilt Gardens program of the Elkhart County
Visitors and Convention Bureau.

NatureFest, Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center,
Farmstead Site
NatureFest is a family-friendly outdoor gathering with a wide range
of nature activities available, including canoeing, geocaching,
wild edibles, hikes with naturalists, camping overnight, campfires
and picnicking. Costs vary depending on age and length of stay.

7 p.m., New Horizons String Orchestra Spring Concert, Rieth
Recital Hall
New Horizons is a national network that has groups in many cities
and towns throughout the country. New Horizons programs provide
entry points to music making for adults, including those with no
musical experience at all and those who were active in school music
programs but have been musically inactive for a long period of
time.
New Horizons Orchestra is directed by Brook Bennett. Free
admission.

7 p.m., Youth Honors Orchestra Concert, Sauder Concert
Hall
Cost: $7 adults and $5 seniors and students. Free for GC students,
faculty and staff with ID. Available at the door one hour before
the concert.

Midwest Birding Expedition to Magee Marsh
Warblers are the theme for this out-of-state adventure to the
shores of Lake Erie where migrating birds pause before taking on a
50-mile journey north over water. Participants will travel by van
to Maumee Bay State Park and nearby Magee Marsh to look for the 37
species of warblers known to pass through, as well as many other
birds. Registration includes lodging and guiding; meals at local
restaurants are not included. $295 per person with double occupancy
lodging at Maumee Bay Lodge. Budget birder option: $175 per person
with campground lodging.
