GOSHEN, Ind. – Five-time Grammy-winning a cappella group, the Swingle Singers, will continue a 45-year tradition as part of the 10th anniversary Performing Arts Series lineup at Goshen College Music Center’s Sauder Concert Hall on April 18 at 7:30 p.m.
The Swingle Singers were formed in Paris in 1962 by Ward Swingle, an accomplished vocalist and musician, who introduced the group to many techniques never used before, including the idea that orchestrated works like Bach’s could be sung. The innovative group quickly became popular and in France, Swingle continued with new members in England. They are currently based in London.
Withstanding the test of time, they continue to receive positive reviews. The Los Angeles Times wrote, “Everything about the Swingle Singers is flawless,” recognizing the musicianship and delivery of the current ensemble of eight young singers.
The Swingle Singers also appeared as part of the Performing Arts Series in 2001. In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the series, concertgoers from previous years were able to vote for the performers who visited over the past ten years that they most wanted to see again. All performers that make up this year’s lineup received votes.
A special highlight of this concert will be the unveiling of the lineup of performers for the Performing Arts Series 2008-09 season. Attendees will have the opportunity to reserve season tickets that night, though season tickets will go on sale for the general public on Wednesday, April 23.
Though regular seating for this concert is sold out, tickets for the Choral Terrace, located behind the stage, are on sale for $12. Occasionally tickets are returned to the Music Center box office the night of the concert and would be available beginning at 6:30 p.m. For more information, contact the Goshen College Welcome Center by calling (574) 535-7566 or e-mailing welcomecenter@goshen.edu.
