GOSHEN, Ind. – Stabat, an a cappella men’s vocal ensemble comprised of 11 current and former Goshen College music students and other music enthusiasts from the community, will perform a program of sacred and secular songs for a cappella men’s chorus during their spring concert on April 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Sauder Concert Hall. The program will range from Early American music by William Billings and Daniel Read to Renaissance works by Palestrina, Lotti and Tallis, to arrangements of hymns by Stabat members.
This concert is the final of the season for Stabat and also will mark the release of their second recording, a self-titled compact disc, recorded in Sauder Concert Hall by Music Center Recording Engineer Matthias Stegmann. The CD will be sold after the concert at a cost of $15.
Stabat men’s vocal ensemble was formed by Goshen College students and community members two year ago, out of their love for singing a cappella music. Now 11 members strong, the group actively performs on and off campus. Members of the group are current students Daniel Clouse (Jr., Goshen), Brooks Gingerich (Jr., Aurora, Ore.), Luke Gingerich (Jr., Aurora, Ore.), Justin Heinz (Jr., Goshen) and Jonathan Mast (Soph., Millersburg, Ohio); recent Goshen College graduates Andrew Gingerich, Will Leichty, Geoff Owens, Daniel Stutzman and Andre Swartley; and area resident Luke Mullet.
The name Stabat comes from the Latin word, meaning steadfast and standing firm.” Sacred classicals, spirituals, folk songs, love songs, Christmas music and hymns are all part of the group’s repertoire. Group member Brooks Gingerich said, “The group has a variety of different voices for a variety of different ranges.”
Tickets for the concert are $6 for adults, $4 for seniors/students and free for GC students with ID. They can be purchased at the door.
