GOSHEN, Ind. – Canadian Brass, a classical brass quintet, has entertained audiences with their baroque and jazz music for more than 35 years, and will perform during the 10th year of the Goshen College Performing Arts Series on Saturday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Center’s Sauder Concert Hall.
Enjoying international acclaim, Canadian Brass has recorded more than 60 albums with their wide-ranging repertoire that spans four centuries. The Washington Post once said of the group, “These are the men who put brass music on the map: with their unbeatable blend of virtuosity, spontaneity and humor, they brighten the rosters of concert halls, international festivals and orchestra series throughout the world.”
Originating in Toronto, Ontario in 1970, the founder, Chuck Daellenbach (tuba) and original member Gene Watts (trombone) still remain a part of the group, joined by Bernhard Scully (horn) and a seven-member “Trumpet Dream Team” that rotate the two trumpet positions. Canadian Brass’ repertoire includes Purcell, Vivaldi, Beethoven, Wagner and J.S. Bach.
Accomplished performers all, this ensemble infuses wit and improvisation into their virtuosic performances of diverse works, securing their reputation as an audience favorite.
Canadian Brass appeared as part of the Performing Arts Series in 2003. In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the series, concertgoers from previous years were able to vote for the performers who visited over the past 10 years that they most wanted to see again. All performers that make up this year’s lineup received votes.
Though regular seating for the concert is sold out, tickets for the Choral Terrace, located behind the stage, are on sale for $15. Occasionally tickets are returned to the Music Center box office the night of the concert and would be available beginning at 6:30 p.m. For more information, contact the Goshen College Welcome Center Monday by calling (574) 535-7566 or e-mailing welcomecenter@goshen.edu.
