Internationally acclaimed father-son duo to conclude Performing
Arts Series March 31
GOSHEN, Ind. – The 2005-06 Performing Arts Series at
Goshen College will end on an energetic note March 31 as
clarinetist Richard Stoltzman and pianist Peter Stoltzman take the
stage. The father-son duo, who have traveled throughout the United
States, Italy and Japan, will perform “Clarinet and All That
Jazz” at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Center’s Sauder Concert
Hall.
Two-time Grammy award winner Richard Stoltzman has gained an
international reputation as one of the most well-known and
sought-after concert artists. He was the first clarinetist to give
a recital in the history of Carnegie Hall as well as the Hollywood
Bowl.
Richard has released more than 50 albums, both as a solo artist
and in collaboration with talented individuals and ensembles. Each
summer, he offers a series of master classes for clarinetists from
around the world that encourages artistic relationships and
concentrated studies. The “New York Times” calls
Richard “one of the premiere clarinetists and a musician with
an exceptionally personal approach to every piece he
plays.”
The senior Stoltzman earned his undergraduate degree at the Ohio
State University with a double major in music and mathematics; he
earned his master’s degree at Yale University and later
studied with Kalmen Opperman, a master clarinetist, teacher,
arranger and composer at Columbia University for his
doctorate.
Richard’s son Peter Stoltzman is a renowned musical artist
in his own right. A singer and composer as well as an extremely
talented pianist, Peter has made a name for himself. According to
the Los Angeles Times,” Peter is “a monster jazz
piano player.”
Peter graduated from Berklee College of Music in 1999 and
studied in Boston with William Thomas McKinley, Joanne Brackeen and
Charlie Banacos. He has served as a faculty member at the Stanford
Jazz Workshop for 10 years, working alongside and performing with
musical legends.
The Stoltzmans have performed together at music festivals as
well as at venues such as the Hollywood Bowl and Carnegie Hall,
where they have delighted audiences. They have been featured on
“CBS Sunday Morning” and NPR’s “Performance
Today” and recently released their first collaborative
recording.
