GOSHEN, Ind. – Former Nickel Creek band member Chris Thile returns to Goshen College's Sauder Concert Hall stage, this time with his band the Punch Brothers. This Performing Arts Series concert will take place Friday, April 3 at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are still available for the concert for $25, $20, $15 (regular seating) and $12 (choral terrace, which will be open when regular seating is sold out). For more information, contact the Goshen College Welcome Center by calling (574) 535-7566 or e-mailing welcomecenter@goshen.edu.
The "Washington Post" said Thile, "may well be the most virtuosic American ever to play the mandolin." Which should come as no surprise to anyone who saw Thile dazzle the Sauder crowd in 2006.
The Punch Brothers' innovative style uses traditional bluegrass instruments (mandolin, banjo, guitar, violin and bass) in Thile's long-form composition pieces, which blend classical, jazz and folk music. The "New York Times" said the group "expands the frontier of an emerging style of what might be called American country-classical chamber music."
The band formed in 2007 under the name The Tenisons Mountain Boys and released their first album, " Punch," in 2008 under the name Punch Brothers.
