Bach organ recital offered to celebrate 325th birthday

GOSHEN, Ind. – Goshen College professor and organist Christine Thögersen and three of her students will celebrate the 325th birthday of 17th century composer Johann Sebastian Bach by performing an organ recital of Bach's music on Sunday, March 21 at 5 p.m. in the Music Center's Rieth Recital Hall.
Three of Thögersen's organ students from the Community School of the Arts will join her in the performance: Eva Lapp, Benjamin Wiebe and Carol Weirich. They will perform organ preludes and fugues, chorale preludes and various other works for organ.
One of the most prolific and famous composers in history, Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 31, 1685, making 2010 the 325th anniversary of his birth. A lifelong church musician, Bach composed hundreds of pieces for voice, instruments, choirs and organ.
Thögersen is assistant professor of music at Goshen College. Her teaching at GC includes keyboard theory, fine arts for children, foundations of music theory and applied piano and organ. Thögersen also teaches elementary music at Benton Elementary and serves as organist at Eighth Street Mennonite Church in Goshen.
