GOSHEN, Ind. – Chapter officers Brenda Srof and Vicky Kirkton from the Nu Omicron Chapter At Large, member of The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International, presented a gift of $500 to the Center for Healing and Hope of Goshen. The gift, presented March 4, was the second year that the chapter has been committed to community outreach through providing a gift to a community health agency. Kirkton is the director of the Goshen College Department of Nursing and Srof is professor of nursing at Goshen College and president of the local chapter.

“The Center for Healing and Hope provides a much needed service in this community. Director Dale Wentorf is a visionary leader in providing health care to those with limited access or resources for health services. He has been an inspiration to many nursing students in this community,” said Srof. “The Nu Omicron chapter is pleased to be able to give back to the community in ways that will promote health and uphold the mission of the organization.”

Nu Omicron, a local chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International Organization began and continues as a joint venture between Goshen College, Bethel College and Saint Mary’s College. Nu Omicron supports research development, service and leadership in nursing practice. Last year the chapter presented the monetary gift to Perinatal Exposure Prevention Program of South Bend.

This year, the chapter officers selected the Center for Healing and Hope, a church sponsored agency whose purpose is to serve people who experience difficulty in obtaining health care services. The center has locations in Goshen and Elkhart. The Center for Healing and Hope serves the poor and uninsured, refers patients to primary care physicians for preventive care and provides advocacy services with other community agencies.
