GOSHEN, Ind. – Student members of the Goshen College vocal music program will present scenes from operas and musical theater works during two performances in the Music Center's Rieth Recital Hall on Friday March 5 at 4 p.m. and Saturday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m. The performances are free and open to the public.

The student participants will perform scenes from various operas and productions by W. A. Mozart, Georges Bizet, Henry Purcell and Leonard Bernstein. These scenes are typically lightly staged or unstaged, and will be performed in English with piano or harpsichord accompaniment. All student performers are vocal music students of Professor of Music Debra Brubaker and Assistant Professor of Music Scott Hochstetler. Accompanists for the scenes will be Associate Professor of Music Beverly Lapp and Assistant Professor of Music Christine Larson Seitz.

The Opera Workshop, affectionately dubbed "OpShop" by student participants, is a biennial program intended to give students in the Goshen College vocal program experience in performing opera and musical theater without staging a full-fledged operatic production. Opera Workshops and full operatic productions are typically held on alternating years. The next full opera production at Goshen College is scheduled for Spring 2011.
