Four Goshen College basketball players named to All-Conference Teams

GOSHEN, Ind. – Two members of the Goshen College Men’s Basketball team and two members of the Women’s Basketball team were selected to the All Mid-Central College Conference Teams, as announced by league officials this weekend.

Men’s Basketball

After averaging a league-high 23.8 points a game, sophomore guard Errick McCollum, of Canton, Ohio, was named first-team all conference. After a stellar freshman campaign that saw him average 18.5 points and 5.3 rebounds a game, McCollum earned MCC Newcomer of the Year and MCC 2nd-Team Honors. McCollum followed his freshman year up this season by scoring 20 or more points in 12 of 16 conference games as a sophomore.



Also garnering MCC recognition was 6-foot, 6-inch tall senior Brice Hartman, of Elkhart, Ind. The forward backed up his MCC Honorable Mention junior season by averaging 16.7 points and 4.5 rebounds a game. Highlighting his senior season was a career-high 27-point outburst over Marian College.



Women’s Basketball

First-year student Cassie Greives, of Rochester, Ind., was one of five members selected to the MCC All-Newcomer team after she averaged 12.9 points and 7.2 rebounds a game. The six-foot center’s scoring average was eighth in the conference and tops among frosh. Greives was also second in the conference in rebounding and field goal percentage.

Also receiving recognition from the MCC was senior Katie Sowers, of Hesston, Kan. Sowers was named an MCC Academic All-Conference, which is awarded to full-time juniors and seniors who carry a 3.4 or higher grade point average for the entire year. On the court, Sowers averaged 7.8 points and 5.1 rebounds a contest.

The men’s team, with an overall record of 19-11 (7-9 MCC), received the number seven seed heading into the MCC Conference Tournament, which began Feb. 27. The women’s team, with an overall record of 11-18 (5-11 MCC), are seeded number eight for the MCC Tournament, which began Feb. 26.
