Goshen College announces Stoltzfus Leadership Scholarship and CITL Leadership Program recipients
Goshen College has announced the recipients of the Stoltzfus Leadership Scholarship and Center for International Teaching & Learning (CITL) Leadership Program awards for 2010.
The Stoltzfus Leadership Scholarship is awarded to African American, Latino/a American, Asian American and Native American (ALANA) students who were heavily involved in promoting multicultural awareness during high school.
To qualify for the Stoltzfus Leadership Scholarship, a student must be a permanent resident or citizen of the United States with a 2.5 or greater grade point average in high school. Students entering college directly after high school are given priority.
The students who will receive the Stoltzfus Leadership Scholarship are:
Jacob Maldonado Nofziger of Pettisville, Ohio, son of Rob and Jenny Nofziger. He is graduating from Pettisville High School and attends Zion Mennonite Church. He plans to study biology in college.
Jenica Corbett of Goshen, daughter of Matthew and Karis Corbett. She is graduating from Goshen High School and attends Assembly Mennonite Church. She plans to study English in college.
Anna Simmons of Portage, Ind., daughter of Alan and Antonia Simmons. She is graduating from Portage High School and plans to study biology in college.
Wendy Oduor of South Bend, Ind., daughter of Leonard and Eunice Amuok. She is graduating from John Adams High School and attends Kern Road Mennonite Church. She is undecided on her college major.
Vasti Rosado of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, daughter of Carlos Rosado Otiz and Ellia Resto Hernandez. She is graduating from Academia Menonita and plans to be an interdisciplinary major in college.
Austin Schwinn of Goshen, son of Steven and Linette Schwinn. He is graduating from Goshen High School and plans to study history in college.
Corine Alvarez of Goshen, daughter of Jaime Alvarez and Diane Beam. She is graduating from Bethany Christian High School and attends Berkey Avenue Mennonite Church. She plans to study history in college.
Emily Grimes of Goshen, daughter of Daniel and Brenda Grimes. She is graduating from Bethany Christian High School and attends Berkey Avenue Mennonite Church. She plans to study music in college.
Colleen DeLong of Gary, Ind., daughter of Carla A. Thurman. She is graduating from Thea Bowman Academy and plans to study biology in college.
Mohagany Lattimore of Indianapolis, Ind., daughter of Steven and Valicity Lattimore. She is graduating from Charles A. Tindley Accelerated School and attends Northside New Era church. She plans to study psychology in college.
The CITL Leadership Program is a group of Latino/a students who are selected to participate in a learning community as part of the collegeÕs Center for Intercultural Teaching and Learning. The award is reserved for first-generation college students. The students receive full tuition and leadership opportunities on campus.
To qualify for the CITL Leadership Program, students must be of Hispanic/Latino heritage, be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident with a high school grade point average of 2.75 or above and be entering Goshen College directly from high school. Priority is given to in-state students, though out of state students are encouraged to apply as well.
The students who will receive the CITL Leadership Program award are:
Rafael Correa of Ligonier, Ind., son of Rafael and Lorena Correa. He is graduating from West Noble High School and attends St. PatrickÕs Catholic Church. He plans to study history in college.
Eric Wheaton of Goshen, son of Scott Wheaton and Rosa Garcia. He is graduating from Goshen High School and plans to study nursing in college.
Maira Santos of Goshen, daughter of Bartolo and Hibertina Santos. She is graduating from NorthWood High School and is undecided on her college major.
Michelle Espino of Fort Wayne, Ind., daughter of Francisco Ramirez and Enedina Tlacomulco. She is graduating from North Side High School and attends Church of God Templo Sion. She is undecided on her college major.
Christopher Figueroa of Goshen, son of Marina Maldonado. He is graduating from Goshen High School and plans to study nursing in college.
Julisa Quiroz of Goshen, daughter of Mariana Quiroz. She is graduating from Goshen High School and plans to be an interdisciplinary major in college.
Ana Pina of Edinburg, Texas. She is graduating from Idea College Preparatory and plans to study biology in college.
Lissette Figueroa of Goshen, daughter of Martin and Maria Figueroa. She is graduating from NorthWood High School and attends Crossroads Latino Ministry. She plans to study nursing in college.
Nancy Medina of Goshen, daughter of Jose and Patricia Medina. She is graduating from NorthWood High School and attends St. Vincent de Paul Church. She plans to study nursing in college.
Maria Garcilazo of South Bend, Ind., daughter of Benjamin and Hortencia Garcilazo. She is graduating from John Adams High School and plans to study nursing in college.
Juan Juarez of Warsaw, Ind., son of Meliton and Araceli Juarez. He is graduating from Warsaw Community High School and plans to study biology in college.
