Goshen College explores supervisory leadership skills in afternoon course
GOSHEN, Ind. – Enrollment is open for Goshen College Business Department's continuing education program "Developing Supervisory Leadership – Part I" course this spring, designed for newly appointed supervisors and managers who feel the need to refresh and improve the skills necessary to their performance as a leaders of organizations.
The course will be held from 4 to 5:45 p.m. on the six Tuesdays between Feb. 9 and March 16 in Newcomer Center, Room 13 on the Goshen College campus. The course is worth 1.2 continuing education credits.
The first unit of this two-part course will emphasize various stages of leadership and analyze the supervisor's role, organizational vision, effective communication and the three goals to success. It will also reflect on major changes that have occurred in business organizations and the social environments in which they operate to better understand how leadership influences the expectations, motivations and behavior of the people they employ.
The course will be led by David A. Bontrager, a human resources executive and consultant with over 30 years of human resources management experience with NIBCO, The Marmon Group, Brown Corp., Goshen Rubber Co. and Western Rubber. Bontrager got his start in 1958 as an hourly employee in NIBCO's foundry. He continued to labor up the corporate ladder and eventually held the top human resources position from 1979 to 1968. An experienced instructor with a master's degree from Ball State University, Bontrager has taught management courses for Purdue University, Goshen College, Ivy Tech and Vincennes University.
The course fee is $289 per person (or $269 per person if three or more from the same company register together) and includes textbook, study materials and coffee breaks. To register call the Goshen College Business Department's Management Development Office at (574) 535-7150.
