Goshen College mid-winter "Lunch and Learn" series to support and encourage administrative staff
GOSHEN, Ind. – This year Goshen College's Management Development Program offers a three-week mid-winter "Lunch and Learn" series targeted to administrative support staff looking to improve work habits and the work environment through lunchtime seminars in Goshen piloted by experienced community leaders.
Classes will be held three Tuesdays from Feb. 23 to Mach 9 from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Goshen College Church-Chapel Fellowship Hall, 1700 South Main Street. Registration deadline is Feb. 15.
Classes include:
• Feb. 23 – "Shifting demographics of Northern Indiana; what have we learned about ourselves and others in the midst of change?" led by Rebecca Hernandez, director of the Center of Intercultural Teaching and Learning (CITL) of Goshen College and assistant professor in the department of nursing at Goshen College.
The Center for Intercultural Teaching and Learning was established in 2006 as a place to study the experiences of the growing Latino immigrant population of Northern Indiana and to help recruit and retain Latino students into Goshen College. In this session, we will hear about some of the lessons learned through these efforts that can be used in other organizations to develop positive intercultural experiences for all in our community.
• March 2 – "Globalization and its Implications for You" led by Jonathan Geiser, associate professor of business at Goshen College, teaching in the areas of finance, strategic management and entrepreneurship. He is also the director of business development for Goshen College's Center for Business and Entrepreneurial Education (CBEE), developing and managing courses, workshops and seminars for the local business community. Geiser has accumulated over 20 years of experience working in both large and small companies in Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. He is also a certified independent trainer in Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University program
The world is changing, and it's changing very rapidly. National economic and financial systems have become deeply interconnected and interdependent. This rapid integration and evolution of the world's economy has presented governments, companies and individuals with enormous opportunities and challenges. This presentation will give an overview of how globalization is transforming our world (economically, politically and culturally) and how institutions, companies, communities and individuals are preparing (or not preparing) to meet the challenges and opportunities that this transformation creates.
• March 9 – "Managing Stress at Work 8-5 and in Life 24/7" led by Anne Birky, a certified massage therapist. Birky is the owner of Anne's Therapeutic massage and gives prenatal, full-body and therapeutic massages at The Retreat two days a week and at the college's Student Wellness & Health Center two days a week. She has done a variety of other types of massages, including chair massage, depending on people's preferences. Graduating many years ago with a degree in elementary education, Birky still considers herself a teacher. As a massage therapist, she has many opportunities to teach people about their bodies and how to care for themselves.
Birky will demonstrate a 15-minute chair massage as one great and inexpensive way to manage stress, and explore other ways through a question and answer session.
The three-week series costs $65 per person. Cost is $60 per person if three or more people register from the same company. Lunches are included.
