Paul Kenyon to perform solo piano recital of Chopin music in honor of 200th anniversary

GOSHEN, Ind. – Visiting guest artist and pianist Paul Kenyon will perform a solo piano recital on Thursday, Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Goshen College Music Center's Rieth Recital Hall. The program will feature works by Polish composer Fryderyk Chopin in celebration of 2010 being the 200th anniversary of the composer's birth. Highlighting the second half of the program will be a performance of all 24 of Chopin's Preludes, Op. 28.

Kenyon is a member of the music faculty at Point Loma Nazarene University where he has taught piano since 1991 and now serves as chair of the music department. He plays concerts throughout the United States. As both a soloist and a collaborative artist, he has been acclaimed for his creative programming and effective communication.

Born in upstate New York, Kenyon earned the doctor of musical arts in piano performance from Michigan State University where he studied piano with Deborah Moriarty and Ralph Votapek. He also holds degrees from Mansfield University and Bowling Green State University, with additional studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. His principal teachers have included Jerome Rose and Angeline Schmid. For six summers, Kenyon has performed at the Colby Piano Institute in Waterville, Maine, where he coached with the internationally renowned pianist, Anthony di Bonaventura. Kenyon serves as director of worship ministries at Reformation Lutheran Church in El Cajon, Calif., and also performs as pianist for Trio Point Loma, a resident faculty chamber ensemble. Before moving to San Diego, he taught piano at Western Michigan University and Wright State University.

Tickets for the recital will be $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and students. They will only be available at the door one hour before the recital. GC students are free with ID.
