Music Together® classes offered around county for infants and young children

GOSHEN, Ind. – This spring, the Goshen College Music Center is offering a session of Music Together® classes in an effort to bring the joy of singing and music learning to children from birth to age 7. The classes are being offered at eight locations in Elkhart County.

Music Together® is a research-based method for developing basic music competence in children. It accomplishes this through singing and movement to songs and chants, drawing on a wide variety of cultures and styles.

In Music Together®, children attend a weekly 45-minute class with a parent, grandparent or other caregiver, and receive a songbook and professional CD for home listening. Classes are taught by a trained professional, and run once per week for 10 weeks. In addition to the weekly classes, each family enrolled receives free tickets to one or more Music Center concerts. An end-of-session celebration will be held at the Music Center with professional musicians accompanying the sing-along. Various other activities will be planned, and food provided.

Music Together® classes are being held at the following locations. Classes will meet at each location on the designated day for 10 weeks.

Chamberlain Elementary School (Goshen) – Monday afternoon/evening
Prairie View Elementary School (Goshen) – Tuesday afternoon
Tolson Center (Elkhart) – Saturday morning
Roosevelt Center (Elkhart) – Thursday evening
Goshen Boys and Girls Club – Saturday morning
Middlebury Boys and Girls Club – Saturday morning
Nappanee Boys and Girls Club – Saturday morning

The cost for the class and materials is $120 for the first child, with significant discounts for additional children from the same family. Need-based scholarships are available to any family whose income qualifies them for free or reduced lunch in the Federal School Lunch program. The Music Center is committed to making this program available to every family who would like to participate.  Registration is open until Feb. 5, and classes will begin the following week.
