GOSHEN, Ind. – The Goshen College Chorale will host the Afternoon Sabbatical "Psalms Through the Ages" on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 1 p.m. in the Music Center's Sauder Concert Hall. The chorale will lead the audience in an exploration of the use of psalms in choral music, from medieval chant through the modern period. Composers will include Bourgeois, Hassler, Schubert, Brahms, Billings, Bernstein, Aguiar, Pote and many more.

"From the beginning of Christianity until the present day, believers have used the psalms to express thanks, praise and even sorrow and anger in conversation with their Creator," said Chorale director Scott Hochstetler, Goshen College assistant professor of music. "Composers have done likewise, giving us some of the most sublime music ever written."

The Chorale is accompanied by Christine Seitz, an assistant professor of music at Goshen College. Hochstetler directs the Chorale and Men's Chorus, and teaches applied voice, vocal pedagogy, conducting and diction. Seitz had been a sought-after recital accompanist in Michiana for 35 years. She has been the accompanist and assistant director for the St. Joseph Valley Camerata since 1978, and has been the organist at First United Methodist Church in Mishawaka since 1987.

A reception in the Music Center lobby will follow the program. Afternoon Sabbatical programs are usually on the second Tuesday of the month at 1 p.m. in Sauder Concert Hall or the College Church Fellowship Hall and are free and open to the public.
