GOSHEN, Ind. – John Fast, assistant professor of music at Eastern Mennonite University (Harrisonburg, Va.), will present an organ recital on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007 at 4 p.m. in Rieth Recital Hall, located in Goshen College’s Music Center.
In the recital, Fast will perform “Phoenix Processional” by Dan Locklair, Bach’s “Passacaglia and Fugue in C Minor, BWV 582,” “All Creatures of our God and King” by James Woodman, three global songs by John Behnke, the prelude to “Eventide” by Raymond Haan, “Abide with Me” arranged by Robert Hobby and “March on a Theme of Handel” by Alexandre Guilmant.
Fast, a member of the Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) music faculty since 1975, teaches organ, piano and music theory. He also teaches piano to younger musicians in the preparatory department at EMU. A church musician, he is currently organist and choir director at Park View Mennonite Church in Harrisonburg.
As an accompanist, Fast was with the Shenandoah Valley Choral Society and the Shenandoah Valley Children’s Choir for many years. He is a frequent guest organ accompanist for several choral organizations in the Shenandoah Valley.
Fast is a native of Mountain Lake, Minn., where his keyboard study was with Orlando Schmidt. His undergraduate degree in music was from Bethel College in North Newton, Kan. He received a master of music degree from Indiana University, where he also received the Performer’s Certificate in Organ Performance.
