Student-produced documentary about the Jamaican Deaf to debut Jan. 16

GOSHEN, Ind. – The Goshen College student-produced
documentary "LifeSigns" about the Deaf in Jamaica
will premiere Saturday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. in the Umble Center. It
was
directed by senior Taylor Stansberry (Greentown, Ind.), produced by
senior Doug Hallman (Lancaster, Pa.), edited by Sarah Jensen
'09, videography work done by Dusty Diller '09 and
field interpretation done by senior Charity Kheshgi (Latrobe,
Pa.).
The documentary was filmed on-site in Jamaica this past summer. It
offers insights into Deaf Jamaica, The Jamaican Deaf Village,
Caribbean Christian Center for the Deaf, New Life Church of the
Deaf and Hands in Praise. All of the profits from DVD sales of the
film will be donated to the Caribbean Christian Center for the
Deaf.
"LifeSigns" is the product of the students who won
the 2009 Peace and Justice Film Documentary Contest sponsored by
the Goshen College Communication Department. After they submitted a
proposal for the documentary and winning, they received a $5,000
grant to produce the documentary.
The event is free and open to the public. It will be accessible in
American Sign Language and English.
DVD request forms will be available at the showing.
Refreshments will be served following the viewing of the
documentary.
