Elkhart County Youth Honors Orchestras to present winter concert

Concert: Elkhart County Youth Honors Orchestras
Date and time: Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m.
Location: Goshen College Music Center's Sauder Concert Hall
Cost: $7 for adults, $5 for seniors/students, available at the door and one hour before the concert.

GOSHEN, Ind. – Two youth orchestras made up of Elkhart County musicians will perform a concert in Goshen College Music Center's Sauder Concert Hall on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $7 for adults and $5 for seniors/students, available at the door and one hour before the concert.

The concert will feature the Elkhart County Youth Honors Symphony Orchestra (grades 9-12) and Concert Orchestra (grades 7-9). The orchestras are conducted by Christopher Fashun, Kyle Weirich and Brian Wiebe.

The symphony orchestra will perform Mozart's "Symphony No. 29 in A Major," Mussorgsky's "Night on Bald Mountain" and William Walton's "Crown Imperial March." The concert orchestra will perform the third movement of Brahms' "Symphony No. 4" (arr. Meyer), Soon Hee Newbold's "A Knight's Quest" and "Jupiter" from Gustav Holst's "The Planets" (arr. Deborah Baker Monday).

The Youth Honors Orchestras have a long tradition of excellence in Elkhart County. They were launched by the Elkhart County Symphony Association and are based in the Goshen College Music Center. The ensembles consist of Elkhart County strings, wind and percussion honors students selected by audition. Rehearsals are held on Saturday afternoons leading up to concerts in January and May.
