GOSHEN, Ind. – Chicago-based string ensemble, Spektral String Quartet, will present its "IN/EX-trovert" program on Friday, Jan. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Goshen College Music Center's Rieth Recital Hall. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students/seniors, and are available at the door an hour before the concert.
"IN/EX-trovert" explores the inverse relationship of the inward rumination and the outward exclamation. Traversing the intimacy of Brahms' "Quartet in A Minor," the gregariousness of Haydn's "Quartet Op. 77 No. 2" and Thomas Ades' "Arcadiana" which flits between both worlds, "IN/EX-trovert"is a sonic exploration of the dualism of personality.
With its debut concert hailed as one of the Top 5 classical performances of 2010 by TimeOut Chicago magazine, the Spektral Quartet has emerged as an ensemble of adroit musicality and innovative programming. Just as committed to performing in nontraditional venues as concert halls, the foursome performs the likes of Beethoven and Haydn equally alongside Adés and Glass.
The Chicago Classical Review described the group as having " a winning combination of superb playing and a fresh approach to repertoire choice and concert staging."
Recent engagements have included recording commissions from Chicago composers George Flynn ("American Enchantment") and Chris Fisher-Lochhead ("Dig Absolutely") as well as Ensemble Dal Niente founder Kirsten Broberg ("of resonance"). A concert of new music exclusively written by Chicago-area composers is slated for the quartet's 2011/2012 season.
The group consists of Aurelien Fort Pederzoli, violin; J. Austin Wulliman, violin; Doyle Armbrust, viola; and Russell Rolen, cello.
