Jonathan Roth, professor emeritus of biology, dies at 86
Dr. Jonathan N. Roth, professor emeritus of biology at Goshen College, passed away in Goshen on March 13, 2024, at the age of 86. He taught at the college for 42 years, from 1962 to 2004.

Mary K. Oyer, professor emerita of music, died on January 11, 2024, in Goshen at the age of 100. Oyer taught at Goshen College from 1945 to 1987, during which time she developed a Fine Arts course that became legendary among students and was instrumental in bringing wide recognition and acceptance of the fine arts in a Mennonite liberal arts education.
John A. Lapp, former provost and academic dean at Goshen College, died Dec. 5 at the age of 90 in Goshen. He served the college for 12 years, from 1972-1984.
Marion “Mario” Wenger, retired professor of German at Goshen College, died in Goshen on September 21, 2023. He was 91 years old. Wenger was a professor at Goshen College for 25 years, from 1963 to 1988. He taught a variety of German and linguistics classes at Goshen, as well as spending time as the chair of humanities and of humane studies.
Marlin L. Jeschke, professor emeritus of philosophy and religion, died Saturday, September 16, 2023, in Goshen. He was 94 years old. A lifelong student and teacher, Jeschke taught courses on Christian faith, religion in America and Asian religions at Goshen College from 1961 to 1994.
Gordon Yoder, associate director emeritus of college relations for Goshen College, died Monday, January 30, 2023. He was 97 years old.
Rafael Falcón, professor emeritus of Spanish at Goshen College, died Wednesday, August 17, 2022. He was 74 years old. Falcon taught Spanish at Goshen College from 1979-2011.
Jay Harold "Sarge" Yoder, longtime professor emeritus of physical education and head coach at Goshen College, died Thursday, April 14, 2022, surrounded by family. He was 94 years old. Dr. Yoder taught physical education and coached at Goshen College primarily from 1955 to 1987. The J. Harold "Sarge" Yoder Baseball Field, named in 2015, honors his dedicated service.
Merritt Gardner, retired professor of mathematics who taught for 29 years, died Wednesday, December 30. He was 87 years old.
Dr. Henry "Hank" D. Weaver, professor emeritus of chemistry and provost emeritus at Goshen College, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021. He was 93 years old, having served the college from 1957-1980, and again in 1996.
