We have stories to tell. Everything from exciting new programs to
stimulating lectures to outstanding faculty teaching and research takes
place with regularity at Goshen. Many of these have the potential to be
featured in the media.
The media is an ally, not the enemy. They are in the business of
telling stories and we have stories to tell. A good relationship
between GC and the media makes good sense.
The role of media relations is to let media know about stories
and current happenings on campus. To do a good job representing GC to
media means that we need to stay in touch with the campus pulse so that
we know the stories being written each day at GC.
Faculty are able to help society understand and provide context
and commentary about current and historical events of importance. Once
a reporter knows that you have up-to-date knowledge on topics in your
field, promptly respond to their requests and can offer helpful and
interesting insights, the reporter is likely to call you regularly.
You, the reporter and the college all benefit.
Speaking with the media is above and beyond duties of faculty, but is greatly appreciated by the college.
