Students to showcase a medley of musical theater pieces

Goshen College theater students will present an evening of musical theater selections on Sunday, May 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Goshen College’s Umble Center.

The one-hour event will highlight selections from the musicals Aida, Spamalot, Mamma Mia, Footloose and more. The selections will include solos, duets and ensembles.

“This is an opportunity for students to perform musical theater pieces and showcase them for the community,” said Rachel Mast, a senior music major from Corvallis, Ore., who organized the show. “The students involved have helped select the pieces and are not receiving credit for being involved – it is just a chance to use their talents and a unique opportunity.”

Performers include Breanna Bloom, a first-year from Goshen; Jimmy Bontrager, a sophomore from Goshen; Ellen Conrad, a first-year from Lakewood, Colo.; Samuel Aponte, a first-year from Chicago; Emily Grimes, a senior from Goshen; Sadie Gustafson-Zook, a first-year from Goshen; Esra Heisey, a first-year from Goshen; Sarah Lake-Rayburn, a junior from Champaign, Ill.; Jacob Maldonado Nofziger, a senior from Pettisville, Ohio; Rachel Mast, a senior from Corvallis, Ore.; Katie Miller, a senior from Goshen; Cara Paden, a senior from Elkhart; and Maggie Weaver, a first-year from Lititz, Pa.

Andrew Moeggenborg, Umble Center technical director, is the producer for the musical theater showcase. Other members of the production team include: Rachel Mast, stage director; Katie Miller, music director; Nick Peebles, a first-year from Chicago, Illinois, sound designer; Angie Troyer, a senior from Elkhart, stage manager; Maggie Weaver, choreographer; and Riley Woods, a first-year from North Manchester, Ind., light designer.
