Sauder Concert Hall Spring Performance

Goshen College Campus April 9, 2005

Lavender Jazz presents "Everybody Wants You"
Directed by Sonny Carreño.

Last November 6, Lavender Jazz brought its' musical flight of fancy ever closer to terra firma. New vistas rolled out, the landscape came into view, the topography grew dense, and the sounds of a thousand rhythms made it official: "It's A Jungle Out There!"

Lav Jazz emerged from the jungle to find that "Everybody Wants You."

LJ's Spring Concert will feature a little of a what a bride wears on her wedding day: something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.

Something Old: The concert will open with GC Alumni Jazz. This marks the first time a GC alumni jazz band will perform in Sauder Hall.

Something New: For the first time during a Lavender Jazz concert, vocalists will be featured. Current students Adam Roth, Adrienne Nesbitt, with Fallon Will on piano, and alumnus/community member, Randall Jacobs, will each sing a number with LJ.

Something Borrowed: The five Seniors in Lavender Jazz, Danny King, Jaron Kennel, Jason Schmucker, Daron Showalter and Steve Schrock, have each selected a number they wish to perform in their final home concert. Each has borrowed a tune from an earlier concert from their four year career.

Something Blue: Where does Jazz come from? The Blues, of course.

March 19th 2004 Concert Press Release

Lavender Jazz to perform March 19 at Goshen College

GOSHEN, Ind. -- Lavender Jazz, Goshen College's "big band," returns to the Sauder Concert Hall stage for an engaging March 19 concert in the Music Center at 8 p.m.

With director, Sonny Carreño, Lavender Jazz will explore -- through lively music -- the question, "What Planet Is This?" The band will perform the Buddy Rich arrangement of The Beatles' "Norwegian Wood," Count Basie's "Jumping At the Woodside" and Errol Garner's "Misty," among others. The group's classy presentation and energetic music -- not to mention those purple ties -- became an instant crowd-pleaser last fall. Carreño said, "Since our auspicious debut last fall, we're bigger, stronger and more cohesive. We've expanded our repertoire, polished our sound and put together a can't-miss event!"

Hearts and Jazz Dinner

Sodexho Dining Hall Feb. 12, 2004

Lavender Jazz teamed up with Sodexho to bring Goshen College a very special dinner on Thursday, Feb. 12. Students enjoyed a nice buffet dinner while Lavender Jazz performed tunes from the Nov. 8th concert, as well as some new songs that gave people a taste of what is to come in the March 19th concert. The gig went very well, and as Joe Rondinelli (in charge of GC Dining Services) put it, "You guys did a great job." Lavender Jazz is planning on returning sometime around next Thanksgiving.
