Since 1980,
the Strings Preparatory Department has used the celebrated Suzuki method
to introduce the joy of learning stringed instruments to children ages
5-18. Private lessons, which a parent attends so that he or she can help
at home, are complimented by group instruction. Students benefit from
both solo and group performance opportunities.
Program Director
Kathy Oyer,
who holds a doctoral degree in music, has studied at Goshen College, Northwestern
University, Indiana University and the University of Iowa. She has directed
programs for young violinists at Simpson College, Indianola, Iowa, and
in Indianapolis. At Goshen College, she teaches violin, viola, music theory,
and jazz in addition to directing the strings preparatory department.
One of her compositions for young violinists was published by One World
Publications.
