  • Saturday, November 8, 2008 – Lavender Jazz Fall Concert:  "Ritmo Mundial". 
    7:30 p.m., Sauder Concert Hall

    Goshen College's big band performs their eleventh concert in Sauder Concert Hall.  The program, Spanish for "world rhythm," has a distinctly world-beat flair, with charts and arrangements draw from Hispanic, African, Afro-Cuban, southeast Asian, Irish, and lounge music cultures and influences.

    Tickets $7 adults, $5 seniors/students.  All tickets available at the door only.

Sonny Carreño, DirectorSonny Carreno

Sonny Carreño, now in his sixth year of directing Lavender Jazz, earned a bachelor's degree in Music Education from Texas State University-San Marcos. He taught band for five years in the Victoria (Texas) Independent School District and taught English as a Second Language in Texas, Wisconsin, and Indiana for 13 years. For nearly 30 years, Carreño has drummed professionally in a wide variety of styles and venues, including Latin, Rock/Pop, R&B, Country and Western and World Beat. Carreño is a former member of Double Barrel Darrel and has performed with the Anna Montgomery Band and the Tim Hochstetler Trio. Carreño resides in Goshen with his wife and best friend, GC Library Director Lisa Guedea Carreño, and their beautiful daughter, Geneviéve.
