Sustainable Design: Rieth Village

Wastewater Treatment   |  Constructed Wetland   |   Recirculating Sand Filter

Wastewater Treatment

Merry Lea made a commitment that the water that leaves the Rieth Village site would be as close as possible to the quality it was when it entered the site. All wastewater, after passing through a settling septic tank, runs through a submerged bed constructed wetland where bacteria feed on the nutrients and slowly break down toxins. The treatment process continues in a recirculating sand filter where the water percolates through a bed of sand up to six times before leaving the site.
