Farmcraft Our volunteers have been helping elementary students from Northern Indiana learn about farming before electricity. This fall, volunteers will help teach about 2,000 students. Our programs would not be successful without our teaching volunteers. We are still in need of good volunteers who would be willing to help with this program!

Many Hands Make Light Work
August 29th brought sunshine and volunteers for a work day at Merry Lea. Some
volunteers worked on sewing and painting projects, while others worked at
setting up the farm for the fall Farmcraft program. The Farmcraft program
will be host to over 2,000 elementary students the fall. Volunteers had a
great time getting to know one another, while completing projects.
Sugar
Bush
On February 18, 2008, a new batch of volunteers was trained for Sugar Bush duties
at the Yoder Farm. Volunteers were trained as station teachers and as support
staff. Sugar Bush offers a sense of camaraderie among those who work and
volunteer there. Many of our volunteers come out year-after-year, donating
their time because of their love of the outdoors and the children that attend.
One of these dedicated volunteers, Argil Shock passed away in late 2007. He
was honored at the training during the Maple Leaf Ceremony in the Sugar House. Argil
started the tradition of hanging maple leaves to honor the volunteers that had
passed on. During the ceremony, Larry Yoder said a few words about Argil,
and also reminisced about the other volunteers honored with leaves.
