2005 Eco-Career Day Report
On April 22nd 2005 seventy high school students celebrated Earth Day
by participating in Eco-Career day at Merry Lea. Students spent the day
interacting with
environmental professionals from all over the region. Presenters gave
students insight into what their careers entail, why they feel their
jobs are important and contribute to preserving the environment, and
what kind of educational paths would be required to pursue similar careers.
The presenters at the Eco-Career Day came from a wide range of environmental
careers. Students chose from seminars presented by; Rodney Clear a conservation
officer, Krista Daniels a naturalist for Elkhart County Parks, Chris Egolf a
local forester, Mike McKay a “Green” Architect, Randy Milar a Wildlife
Biologist from the DNR, Erik Vosteen a cultural and environmental Interpreter,
Jim Weingart from Indiana Department of Environmental Monitoring, and Nancy Cobb
a wildlife rehabilitator from Heartland Wildlife Rehab. Thank you so much to
all our presenters for giving your time to teach young people about careers that
can really make a difference.
