Wetland Cell BioFilter for Waste Water Treatment Photos - Luke Gascho

The wetland cell treats all the grey and black water from Rieth Village.

By the summer of 2006, the plants were well established.

Following are photos of sequential stages in construction of the wetland cell.

The outflow sewer pipe from the primary treatment tank (septic tank) carries waste water from the tank to the cell. All the wastewater from Rieth Village will be treated on site. (October 26, 2005)

The basin for the wetland cell has been excavated and workers are preparing to install the rubber liner in the bottom of the cell. (October 26, 2005)

The rubber liner is in place. This will keep the wastewater from percolating into the soil. (October 26, 2005)

Workers install the distribution system in the bottom of the wetland cell. Wastewater will enter the cell through the distribution chamber (on the upper right side of the photo). The pipes on the left will receive the water after it has made its way through the gravel bed and wetland plants in the cell. (October 26, 2005)

Stone has been installed on the two ends of the wetland cell. (October 27, 2005)

Pea gravel is placed in the middle section of the wetland cell. The gravel serves as a substrate for the wetland plants that play a major role in the filtration and purification of the water. (October 27, 2005)
