Agroecology Summer Intensive (ASI)
What
are the dates? June 4 through August 3, 2012 (nine weeks).
What is the deadline for
receipt of my completed application? April 30, 2012.
Where are the courses delivered? In the classrooms,
gardens and environmental laboratory of Merry Lea Environmental Learning
Center.
How many credits do I earn? 12 credits for the
four courses of the ASI.
Can I take just part of the program? Although
it is recommended that the four courses making up the ASI
be taken together as a unit, a two-course (soils and vegetable crops),
6-credit option is also available.
What alternatives are
available if I do not need college credit? A
certificate program allows you to participate in the ASI, but instead of
college credit you will receive a certificate of participation.
What does the ASI cost? The cost
for the 12-credit summer semester is $7,560 ($3,780 for the 6-credit
option). The
cost for the certificate program is $1,560 ($780 for four and one half
weeks).
Does this include room and
board? Housing is provided at Rieth
Village and costs $878 for nine weeks (or $439 for four and one half
weeks). Food is at the expense of the student although fresh vegetables
are available from the greenhouse and kitchen gardens.
Are scholarships available? Several $2,000 scholarships
are available ($1,000 for the 6-credit option). Application
forms are available on the Merry Lea
website or by contacting Dr. Hess at dhess@goshen.edu.
I don’t attend Goshen College; must I enroll at GC in
order to participate? No, an application
form is available on the Merry Lea website, and credits are transferable
to your home institution.
What are the course prerequisites? General
biology and general chemistry are recommended.
