A Poem Inspired by Wright's "A Protest Poem"

War Games

As I sit at my computer

Wasting time with games

I can hear the TV in the background

Bush, Kerry, Republicans, Democrats,

Back and forth they debate

As I steer the black colony towards victory

Over the red.

"This president has made a colossal

error of judgment"

Kerry says

As I send my strongest ants

To reclaim the food pile,

Clear out red workers.

"America and the world are safer; we did right!"

His opponent responds from across the screen.

The red soldiers have arrived

here to protect what they have stolen,

"Iraq was not even close to the center of the war on terror,

Bin Laden is still out there, why were we in Iraq?"

Kerry’s words are too few, too late.

I have planned for this,

As I watched them eat our food

"A free Iraq is an enormous blow

To the enemy’s ideology of hatred."

The red have regrouped,

This will be a hard battle

"The biggest threat to our country today

Is nuclear weapons in the hands of terrorists"

I see the spider to the east

Even now the red ants provoke it

I must kill them,

Before the spider comes too close

To be turned away
