Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service is available to Goshen College faculty, retired faculty, students and staff. The service allows patrons to borrow materials that are not owned by the Good Library from other libraries. Please read the information below before making your request.

On-Line Forms:

*Few libraries send out videos or DVDs on interlibrary loan.

How to apply:

Verify that the required material is not owned by Goshen College by checking the Good Library catalog.

Complete an Interlibrary Loan request for each item needed:

Please use Request interlibrary loan links within individual databases. Utilize online forms, available above, when direct request within the database is not available.

Paper request forms are also available at the reference desk and the circulation desk of the Good Library.

How long will it take?

It may take from eight days to three weeks to receive materials, depending on location and availability. Materials are borrowed from the closest lending library whenever possible. The library borrows for free when possible. The Good Library pays for the first $15. You should be willing to pay for articles costing more than $15. ILL cannot predict if requests will be received within a specified time period. Borrowers are encouraged to submit ILL requests well in advance of deadlines.

How will I be notified when my materials are in?

Once a book is received, ILL will notify you by email or phone. Books may be picked up at the circulation desk during library hours. Electronic copies of requested articles will be emailed to the email address you provide on the form.

Length of loans / renewals / fines:

The lending library specifies the length of time materials may be kept, usually two to four weeks. Renewal of materials should be requested at least three days prior to the due date. Some libraries may not grant renewals, so please plan to pick up and use ILL materials promptly. A fine of $0.25 per day per item is assessed for overdue interlibrary loan materials. This applies to students, faculty and staff.
