Job Description

Participation in AmeriCorps enables you to serve part-time in direct service to Boys & Girls Club children and youth while attending school. You will receive a modest bi-weekly “living allowance,” while also earning money to offset,education expenses. AmeriCorps membership is open to individuals, age 17 and older, who are U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals or are lawful residents of the U.S.

AmeriCorps “members” commit to working a specified number of hours at one of our Boys & Girls Clubs in Elkhart, Goshen, Middlebury or Nappanee. Your service schedule is TBO with Club personnel. Prospective members must understand however, that the Boys & Girls Club is an afterschool program and thus, AmeriCorps members must be able to work during the late afternoon and early evening hours.

“Members” will work directly with Boys & Girls Club kids, who are between the ages of 6 and 18. It is likely that you will assist Club kids with their school work. “Members” may however, work with children in other areas of the Club. In exchange for their service to the Club, AmeriCorps “members” will receive a bi-weekly “living allowance” and education award as follows. The “living allowance” is paid in equal, bi-weekly payments. The education award is paid in full upon the satisfactory completion of the “member’s” term of service.

Living Allowance
$ 3,600 (450 hours)

How to apply

How to become an AmeriCorps “member,” serving at the Boys & Girls Club:

  • Prospective AmeriCorps “members” must complete a simple application and participate in an interview with Club staff members.
  • An FBI criminal background check is completed. This is a scheduled appointment conducted at a time and place TBO.
  • The Boys & Girls Club also requires all applicants to complete a drug screening.
  • The “member” participates in an AmeriCorps orientation, during which he/she must present:
    • A state 10, driver’s license or school 10 (with a picture)
    •  Proof of citizenship (i.e. birth certificate, passport, or other forms which document one’s naturalization, U.S. citizenship status if born abroad, etc.)
    • A cancelled check so as to establish direct deposit of the living allowance.
