Sophos Endpoint Security and ControlIn mid-March 2011, ITS upgraded the campus Sophos server to have the latest version of the Sophos Antivirus program, called Sophos Endpoint Security and Control, and we are working towards upgrading all campus Windows computers to have this new version of Sophos. Employees and retired employees who use Sophos on their home computers should have also received an automatic upgrade to the new version of Sophos.
How to tell if Sophos on your Windows computer has been upgraded with the new Sophos Endpoint Security and ControlIn the SYSTEM TRAY, right click the Sophos icon. You will see a menu appear. If the top item says, "Open Sophos Endpoint Security and Control", your Sophos has been upgraded. If you are an employee and you find that Sophos has not been upgraded to the new version on your office computer, do not attempt to upgrade it yourself. Please contact the ITS Help Desk at ext. 7700 for assistance. If you use Sophos on your home computer and you find that it has not automatically upgraded to the new version, follow the below steps to upgrade your home copy of Sophos. Firewall SettingsSophos has its own built in firewall protection, however you should continue to use Windows Firewall on your home computer. We have found that the Sophos installer for home computers apparently disables Windows firewall. Use the below instructions to uninstall Sophos's firewall and re-enable Windows Firewall. Uninstalling the Sophos Firewall Component:
Re-enabling Windows Firewall for Windows Vista or Windows 7:
Re-enabling Windows Firewall for Windows XP:
Note: If after doing this you get a red shield in the computer's task tray, it is trying to warn you that your antivirus program is not running. To fix this, simply right-click on the blue Sophos icon in the task tray and choose Update Now. Sophos will run an update, causing Windows to see that the antivirus is running. If you experience any problems, please contact the ITS Help Desk at (574) 535-7700, or send an email to helpdeskgoshen.edu. |
