The LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screen is easily susceptible to smudges, scratches and damage. When cleaning the screen it is important to select a product that is designed specifically for use on LCD screens. Windex, ethyl alcohol and ammonia-based cleaners can over time yellow your flat screen or laptop monitor, and also cause the screen to become brittle and crack.  You should avoid using such products.

The type of cloth you use to clean your flat screen monitor is just as important. Never use paper towel or tissues because their coarse material can scratch the screen.  You should also never use just any type of cloth because it could contain high amounts of lint or dust, and there can be dirt particles on the cloth that can scratch the surface of the screen.

ITS recommends using a microfiber cloth when cleaning your LCD screen.  Microfiber cloths, with their ultra soft, lint free material, are specially designed to be non-abrasive and are gentle enough to even clean camera lenses. Recommended Technique for Cleaning Your LCD Screen

Every manufacturer has their own recommendations on how to clean the LCD screen, however, ITS has found the following method to be most effective.

• Turn the monitor off and allow the screen to cool down.
• Spray a fine mist of the cleaning solution on the monitor--just enough to lightly cover the screen, but not too much that it runs.  Usually 1 to 2 sprays are sufficient.
• Using the microfiber cloth, polish the screen using smooth and even straight lines.  Keep turning your cloth until all residue and streaks are removed.

Caring for Your Microfiber Cloth
Microfiber cloths can be washed and reused. When a microfiber cloth becomes dirty, hand wash it in warm water and a small amount of mild detergent.  Never use bleach or fabric softener. Rinse well and hang to dry.  Store your microfiber cloth in a clean, dry place (Ziplock bags work well).
