Hepatitis B Series
• Hepatitis B is an infection of the liver caused by the Hepatitis B virus (HBV).
• The Hepatitis B vaccination is a series of three injections over a period of six months.
• After the series is completed, protection lasts at least 10 years.
• Recommended for students who:
– are exposed to blood/blood products in their work;
– will travel
to or live in parts of the world where HBV infections are common; or
– have close contact with HBV carriers.
Meningococcal Meningitis:
Meningococcal disease (bacterial
meningitis) is an infection in the
brain’s lining or spinal cord. It is transmitted by inhaling infective
respiratory droplets that are sneezed or coughed into the air.
First-year students living in dormitories are at an increased risk for
becoming ill with this type of meningitis. One injection gives
long-term protection and is recommended before beginning college.
