What is the senior class gift drive?

This drive is an opportunity for our class to participate in a class project and leave our legacy at Goshen College. The 2012 Senior Class gift drive will begin in spring semester, 2012.

Goshen College graduating seniors have a tradition of giving to the College, beginning with the Class of 1915. For years college landmarks such as the stone bench next to the Adelphian Fountain as well as the cabin on the Elkhart River are the result of senior class energy and financial support. Recently these gifts have become harder to come by. They often start out as gifts to GC but end up being financial burdens to the college. Last year, the class of 2011 donated a picnic table that was placed outside of the Leaf Raker snack shop. In addition to this gift the class also contributed $1,511.75 towards a scholarship fund.

How does the gift drive work?

Any size gift will be appreciated. There are three ways to donate. First, you can designate a portion of your small group housing deposit. Secondly, you can donate with cash or check. Lastly, you can donate on this site. The gift drive will get underway spring semester 2012 and more information will be available at that time.

This drive is an opportunity for your class to participate in a class project and leave your legacy at Goshen College.  When all the numbers were in, 35.12 percent of the 2011 Seniors gave a total of $2,361.75 – surpassing the 33.8 percent participation rate of the 2010 class who contributed over $2,766.

Why would a financially strapped college student choose to donate to the senior class gift?

It’s time to think about the larger picture. This is your chance to start investing into the education of future Goshen College students. Your gift, no matter the size, helps build a legacy for your class that will benefit those to follow. The hope is that this is the first step in a lifetime of giving back. While you were a student you have been supported by alumni and friends of Goshen College. Now it is your turn to join the tradition of good stewardship. We hope all seniors will participate, no matter the amount, to ensure the success of the program and leave a legacy for future students. You can make a gift of any amount that is comfortable for you by cash, check, or credit card. If you have a housing deposit – you may apply a portion of it towards your gift.

Thanks for your support!
