Book Sales at the Conference

Books will be sold at two different tables during the conference:

1.  Follett Bookstore at Goshen College will set up tables in the conference area to sell books published by commercial publishers in the U.S. and Canada.  Mainly books written by authors reading in plenary sessions, or books being discussed in academic paper sessions, will be offered for sale at the Follett table.  Payment must be in U.S. funds but may be by cash, personal check or credit card.  NOTE:  Authors may want to bring with them additional copies of their books to sell to the bookstore in case the bookstore supply becomes sold out during the conference.

2.  A more informal book sale will be set up at other tables, offering books or CD's that conferees bring to the conference for sale—self-published books, Pinchpenny Press books, books by authors not reading in plenary sessions, additional books by authors reading in plenary sessions, etc.  The Mennonite Historical Library will sell used and remaindered books of interest to conferees.  Payment must be in U.S. funds—by cash or personal check but not by credit card.  Items sold at this table will be handled thus:

-- The author will insert or attach a 3x5 index card containing this information:

                        Title

                        Author

                        Selling price – must be in even-dollar intervals (e.g., $2, $3, $10, etc.)

-- The author will sign a form that is a record of the number of items consigned.

-- When each item is sold, its card will be retained as a record of the sale.

-- After the conference is over, the author will be sent the cards and a check

for the amount of money that the cards represent.

-- The author will not hold Goshen College for a discrepancy between proceeds and number of books consigned.

-- No fee will be charged for this exchange, although grateful authors may want

to make a special contribution toward the expenses of the conference.

NOTE:  This kind of sale worked very well at the 1997 conference, with all accounts balancing.
