
Professional staff position announcement:
Goshen College seeks applicants for the position of Web Designer/Developer in the Public Relations Office. The Web Designer/Developer is responsible for the design, development and continued maintenance of the externally focused sections of goshen.edu to communicate creatively and effectively. The job involves: managing and developing the site on the existing content management system WordPress; ensuring that design and navigation elements are consistent across the site and are focused on the user experience; creating and managing marketing emails; assisting with social media strategies and implementation; implementing search engine optimization techniques, supporting dispersed web editors; and staying abreast of advancing technologies that could improve the college’s online communication.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, preferably with an academic focus in Communication, Graphic Design/Arts, Multimedia/Web Design, Marketing, Public Relations, Computer Science, Informatics, Digital Media or a related field. Also: a minimum of one year experience in Web design and development and one year experience producing table-less XHTML, standards-compliant cross browser and gracefully degrading code; fluency in XHTML/CSS and Javascript (jQuery); knowledge of current web-design trends and techniques; strong online portfolio displaying user-centered design and demonstrated experience with cross-browser and cross-platform issues; excellent written English and effective communication skills; knowledge and experience with Adobe Creative Suite and an Apple Mac OS; experience with WordPress development web publication software; experience working in a communication/marketing environment; working knowledge of PHP, Ajax, Terminal/command line and web database solutions; attention to detail, customer-service orientation, and creativity in problem solving; and ability to work in a team and communicate effectively with internal and external clients and partners.
