The Earth should get a vote

I believe that God calls us to care for all of creation. I am inspired by the verse that follows one of the most-frequently quotes passages in the Bible. “Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him” (John 3:17). The world, or cosmos, referred to here includes all people – regardless of nationality – and the rest of creation as well. As I evaluate political candidates, I therefore look at two things.
First, do they talk about making life better only for Americans, or do they open up their vision to include our brothers and sisters on the other side of our nation’s borders? Second, have they recognized that human welfare depends on the condition of planet earth? I support those who can convince me they will show leadership as our society searches for practical ways to reduce pollution, restore ecosystems and provide for the needs of all people.
