My faith and political views

The starting point for my political views is the question of what is best for my country and for the world. At one time in history, a person’s allegiance was to his or her city, for example, Rome, Venice, Ragusa, Paris or London.
With increased communication the allegiance moved to the region or nation. We know the tension between allegiance to a state or the United States. Today we are a global society and need to think of how our actions as a country affect the lives of those around the world. The touch stone is not what makes my life better but rather what policies will improve the lives and welfare of those with less opportunity and resources in this country and anywhere in the world. This is also the heart of my faith. Jesus constantly cut through the arguments of the wealthy and powerful and served “the least of these.” Therefore when I choose between the candidates for office, I look for the person who might best understand our obligations to others.
