On June 26 & 27 of this year, people from many different walks of life who share a common interest—environmental education—will come together at the Indiana State Museum in Indianapolis to attend the first statewide Environmental Education Symposium. During these two days we will examine current trends and issues in environmental education and how they impact Indiana, with the intended result of developing recommendations to be used in updating our state environmental education implementation plan. The first day will consist of keynote speakers and panels that will address environmental education from the perspectives of the State, of formal and non-formal educators, and of the family. There will be keynote presentations by Gina McCarthy, Commissioner of Connecticut’s Department of Environmental Protection and an outspoken advocate for reconnecting children with the outdoors; and (via live webinar) Richard Louv, author of Last Child in the Woods. On the second day attendees will participate in working groups to develop recommendations on key issues to help set a course for the future. Because of facility capacity, Symposium attendance will be limited to the first 240 people registered; so please register early! If you have any questions or need further information, please feel free to contact either of the Symposium co-chairs: |
